On February 13, 2019, Brock Solutions celebrated the successful roll-out of its industry-leading cloud-based Baggage Management System (BMS), SmartBag, for one of their European airline customers, Aer Lingus (EI), at Cork Airport (ORK) in Ireland. SmartBag will provide three primary functions for EI: baggage reconciliation (SmartBag Reconciliation), automated mobile reflighting (SmartBag Recovery) and mobile baggage tracking (SmartBag Tracking). The ORK system is the first of 77 planned station deployments; when all stations have gone live, SmartBag will provide end-to-end tracking of all EI bags across the entire EI network, serving as an enterprise-wide BMS.
The cloud-based deployment of SmartBag has enabled Brock to deploy the system in a matter of weeks, positioning EI for a speedy enterprise roll-out to all stations without needing to install costly on-site infrastructure, while reducing overall project costs.
“Although SmartSuite can look daunting when you view it first, it is very intuitive to navigate the different functions. My team and I have become very familiar with its workings and geography very quickly. As we move through our various stages of deployment and see more and more information being provided, it is easy to see how it will benefit our Operation and most importantly, our Guests.”
– Alan Dodd, Project Implementation and Technology Support Manager – Guest Services.
In 2019, Brock Solutions will integrate its dynamic baggage event notification module, SmartNotify, into the EI SmartBag system, allowing passengers to subscribe to receive notifications about the status of their checked baggage and answer the question of “Where Is My Bag?”
Brock is excited to deliver the following benefits to Aer Lingus through the cloud-based deployment of SmartBag and SmartNotify:
- Real-time passenger notifications of baggage handling status
- End-to-end tracking of checked baggage across the entire EI network
- Real-time operational baggage dashboards
- IATA 753 compliance
Brock Solutions is thrilled to continue working alongside Aer Lingus and other stakeholders for many years to come on similar projects in Europe, including the successful launch of our SmartSort Baggage Handling System (BHS) High Level Controls (HLC) and SmartVision Human Machine Interface (HMI) in Dublin Airport Terminal 2 of the Dublin Airport Authority (daa).
