Dublin Airport Terminal 2 and the daa saw the debut of Brock Solutions SmartSuite technology within Europe to deliver an integrated baggage management software solution in February 2019. This was also a milestone year where passenger traffic through Dublin reached a new record level of 32.9 million passengers.
Teams at both Brock Solutions and daa are now excited to announce the go live of the Dublin Airport Terminal 1 baggage handling system project, which now integrates the management of the baggage systems across the Dublin Airport campus; with this soon to be expanded to include baggage data from Cork.
The main purpose of the project was delivery of new EU Regulations around passenger hold baggage screening and extends the T2 features of BHS Map (a live 3-dimensional graphical representation of bags flowing through the sortation system) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform into T1. Additionally, SmartSort includes Auto Routing, in which the high-level controls monitor the BHS for faults and bag congestion and responsively routes bags through the system in an intelligent way.
Despite the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and total passenger numbers dropping by 78% in 2020, the design to go live project was delivered within 15 months with outstanding commitment of teams across the globe working around red list travel restrictions. The dedicated Brock Solutions team spent over 100 days away from Canada and worked in collaboration with Vanderlande to complete integrated testing and FAT in Veghel, Netherlands; with the daa team attending virtually, before moving to site in Dublin to complete the project.
With over 15 years of experience in the BHS space and more than 75 BHS sortation projects in some of the world’s largest airports, Brock Solutions modernizes Baggage Handling Systems with industry leading sortation, controls, and system monitoring software.
