In 2018, Brock Solutions kicked off a new charity initiative which saw all fundraising efforts dedicated to a chosen theme of the year. Funds raised go on to support respectively chosen Charities of the Year. This year, the chosen theme was ‘Food’ and over $40,000 and 28,186 lbs of food was raised, benefitting the Waterloo Region Food Bank, House of Friendship, Second Harvest Food Bank (NC), Greater Vancouver Food Bank, and North Texas Food Bank.
Staff contributed their time, food, talent, and money through a series of events held across all 4 offices. This included sorting food at The Food Bank, hosting spring and fall BBQs, participating in Canstruction®, and building 2 garden sheds for local community gardens.
On May 16th, 2018, Brock Solutions was joined by The Food Bank of Waterloo Region’s Director of Development, Kim Wilhelm, and recognized as the Volunteer Group of the Year for 2018.
“Brock Solutions has a long history of supporting The Food Bank. They’ve provided food for more than 162,200 meals since 2006,” said Kim Wilhelm. “This year, they have raised their support of food banks to even greater levels, especially by engaging all remote offices. Brock Solutions is truly leading by example and helping the community in which they live and work.”
In addition to the various food and fund drives, Rick Brock, Founder and Chairman of Brock Solutions’ Board, also pledged 82% of his salary to support the House of Friendship (HOF). Founded in 1939, HOF works to build a community where all can belong and thrive. Rick’s donation will help HOF support individuals and families who are in need of food, housing, community resources or addiction treatment in the Waterloo Region.
“I’m amazed at how the Brock team continually comes together to make the impact they do in the community. While always working hard, when they come together these events become a lot of fun and the results are impressive!” said Brock Solutions’ Corporate Business Unit Manager, Keith Vermeer.
Brock Solutions’ ‘Food’ theme for 2018 was inspired shortly after staff competed in The Food Bank of Waterloo Region’s Great Food Sort Challenge in October 2017. The teams impressively sorted 12,000 lbs of food and raised $7,915 and 811 lbs of food. Moved by the overwhelming support from employees, The Food Bank’s mission to end hunger, and the alarming need for food assistance in our local communities, choosing ‘Food’ as 2018’s charity theme of the year was an easy decision.
Brock Solutions will be wrapping up the year-long ‘Food’ theme next week when a group of seven employees will compete in the company’s second Canstruction® event. Visit Conestoga Mall from March 9-17, 2019 to see the exceptional structures built by brilliant designers, architects and engineers using only non-perishable food items.
